Virgel F. Dooley, 76, of Granite City, Ill., born April 10, 1940 in Dent County, Mo. passed away on October 10, 2016 in Granite City, Ill.

Mr. Dooley served his country proudly as a paratrooper in the U. S. Army. He retired as a truck driver for Vess Soda Co. Virgel loved talking to people and was always willing to help them in any way he could.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia, nee Robertson, Dooley whom he married on Jan. 1, 1994; his parents, Virgel and Samantha L.,...

Virgel F. Dooley, 76, of Granite City, Ill., born April 10, 1940 in Dent County, Mo. passed away on October 10, 2016 in Granite City, Ill.

Mr. Dooley served his country proudly as a paratrooper in the U. S. Army. He retired as a truck driver for Vess Soda Co. Virgel loved talking to people and was always willing to help them in any way he could.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia, nee Robertson, Dooley whom he married on Jan. 1, 1994; his parents, Virgel and Samantha L., nee Crow, Dooley; a son, Douglas Dooley; two brothers, Clark Dooley and Edward Paul Dooley; and a nephew, Lester Robertson.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Samuel) Guithes of Granite City, Ill. and Melissa Dooley of Florida; two grandsons, Jacob and Joseph Guithes; two brothers, James (Kate) Dooley of St. Louis, MO and Ray (Chris) Dooley of Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 to 11:00 am on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, IL 62223.

Funeral: Services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Thomas Nadelin officiating. Mr. Dooley will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
